College of William and Mary Stamps 1693 Scholarship

The College of William & Mary currently has thirty-two 1693 Scholars, including thirteen Stamps 1693 Scholars. The Stamps Scholars receive impressive benefits, both educational and financial. The scholars receive significant financial awards: Virginia tuition, fees, room and board annually for in-state residents (full scholarship) and Virginia tuition, fees, room and board annually for out-of-state residents (partial scholarship). In addition to their scholarship funding, Stamps Scholars receive $6,000 to support research or an internship experience.

Stamps Scholars take part in special events and programs, including meetings with journalists, artists, scientists, and humanitarians of our time who visit campus. The scholars also work closely with distinguished faculty mentors, planning their course of study and enjoying access and support reserved at most universities exclusively for graduate students. Stamps Scholars are also given priority in course registration.

Admission Process for the Stamps 1693 Scholarship

All first-year applicants are reviewed as potential Stamps 1693 Scholars – there is no separate application process. Students applying through William & Mary’s Regular Decision process, students applying through William & Mary’s Early Decision process, students applying through William & Mary’s Early Decision II process, students applying for the St. Andrews William & Mary Joint Degree Programme, and international students, are all eligible for the 1693 Scholars Program. William & Mary is a member of the Common Application.

The 1693 Scholars committee selects applicants as potential finalists (semi-finalists) and requests that they submit one additional essay and one short video that will be used to select the finalists. Finalists are required to complete a virtual interview with two alumni as well as a virtual presentation to a faculty panel. Subsequently, a smaller group of finalists (about 15) will be invited to William & Mary for an expense-paid weekend in April. From the events of this weekend and a Zoom or Skype interview with a member of the Stamps Scholars Program, the Stamps Scholars will be selected and notified shortly after their visit.
