How did the Stamps Scholarship help shape your undergraduate experience?
The Stamps Scholarship was a wonderful opportunity because it allowed me to follow my own intellectual curiosities in college, rather than feeling obligated to study what I thought I “should” do. In short, it gave me the mental space to discover a field that I love and pursue my own academic interests. It also provided me with the ability to travel extensively on study abroad programs, which was an incredible asset to me as an art historian and will continue to benefit my future research.

Tell us a piece of wisdom you’ve learned over the past four years.
As an undergraduate, I began to understand the importance of process. Although it’s easy to focus on major events and successes, some of my most rewarding moments have been in the interstices: staying awake until 4am writing because I’m so interested in what I’m studying, or looking back on previous work and realizing how much I’ve grown and changed, or taking time along the way to appreciate the people who support me.

Who has had the greatest impact on you throughout your college career and how so?
Two of my professors, Stuart and Estelle Lingo, completely transformed my college experience. The energy and passion which they bring to their teaching not only helped me discover my love for art history, but also inspired my desire to continue on to graduate school and ultimately to pursue a career within academia. Their mentorship and encouragement were vital to me throughout my time as an undergraduate, particularly this past year as I was applying to graduate schools, and I am so grateful for their unfailing support.

What’s your favorite Stamps Scholar memory?
One of my favorite Stamps memories (I’m having trouble picking just one!) was during the 2015 Stamps Convention, when my focus group visited the High Museum of Art, since I was so excited to be able to see the fantastic collection there.

What comes next?
Next autumn, I will be starting a PhD program at NYU’s Institute of Fine Arts, with a focus on Italian Renaissance art history.
